Hi

I am currently using Corsair 620W modular PSU. It is coping with the specs on my sig. I also have 1 performance SATA HD and 2 additional Green satas. I used eXtreme PSU calculator and it recommended that i should be on 750+ minimum.

I have used my 620 for a while now and it been fine, no strain or problems or increase in fan speed from what i can tell. My rig is solid as a rock. I was tempting to buy another WD 2Tb Green. My query is am i pushing it as it or should this make little difference?

To the calculator adding a green drive is adding around 10 additional watt on its recommendation which seems to indicate little difference on the overall power consumption as it stands?

Any advice would be welcome.

Cheers
Kyo

You'll be fine, in reality even if you were to run a CPU + GPU stress test at the same time you probably wouldn't even pull 550W from the wall (and a 620W PSU should in theory be able to pull 750W+ from the wall given 80% efficienty).

Thanks that great to hear. Here i was thinking i needed a new power supply. Must say these Corsairs are solid as a rock and i am half tempted to upgrade to the 850 to give a bigger capacity for the future? Upgrading to one of them Silverstone Raven cases soon.

Corsair 850W HX Modular PSU seems quite good although for a bit more Corsair Prof Series AX850 HP 850W Modular '80 Plus Gold. Does the 80+ Gold really make it worth the xtra money in saving power or are we really splitting hairs?

Tbh I'd wait until the PSU upgrade is needed so you know more specifically what size you'll need/want. As for the HX vs AX I'd be tempted to stick with the HX as I've heard more complaints about the AX series (capacitor whine etc).
