Im going to build myself a new Rig at the end of the month and i have had a look at power ratings for the graphics cards etc and i have chosen this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-048-CS The Corsair CX600.

Now im undecided on my GPU so far and i looked on AMD's site and saw the power specs for the HD7970, it is a 500w minimum (same for the GTX670) i then went on to click the link to check the certified PSU's and the Corsair CX600 wasn't on the list.

its gotten me worried that the PSU is maybe not upto the task of what i want it for i want it to power my new rig which will include:

I5 3570k
Gigabyte Z77 ATX mobo
8GB RAM
1TB HD
1 optical drive
and a GTX670 or HD7970 i have not decided which gpu i want yet.
Also it has to power as many fans as i can fit into the Corsair carbide 300 with a Fan controller and i already have an arctic cpu cooler

Will the Corsair CX600 power this? im looking to overclock the CPU sometime in the future to around the 4GHz mark. I have a Xigmatek 500w PSU in my current 955 rig with an HD 5850 but i dont want to risk my new system using that. thanks for any help.

I have done some thinking and decided to go for the Corsair enthusiast TX650 PSU because the +12v rail has a max output current of 52A and a max combined output power of 624W as opposed to the CX600's +12V @ 40A and max output of 480W. and i know the TX650 is more than capable.

I kinda want to go Corsair because im getting a Corsair case, call me weird but im like that.

They're decent units, but the fan gets loud above 50% load level. To be honest, Corsair as a PSU brand are a tad overrated (and sometimes overpriced). Especially now that a lot of their units are Channel Well designs. Seasonic make excellent PSUs, but they can be expensive.

I wouldn't get hung up on one brand. Antec, Delta, Enhance, FSP\Fortron\Sparkle, Super Flower (sometimes sold as Kingwin, NZXT, Rosewill), BeQuiet, Enermax, PC Power&Cooling (inc. OCZ rebadges), Silverstone, even XFX and CoolerMaster all make PSUs worth considering.

what could you spec me that would run the specs stated with eventually an ocerclock on the CPU etc? around the £70ish mark.

Some of those units aren't sold here and I can't link to competing companies due to the forum rules, so that narrows down the choice somewhat.

That's a solid choice, but are you sure you need a 750W unit? I'd only recommend it if you were going Crossfire with a pair of Radeon HD7970s. 500W is enough for the specification you posted.

Just realised the time  I'll post back later if you're still unsure on what PSU you want.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £65.99
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 '80 Plus' Power Supply (CMPSU-600CXUKV2) £56.99
1 x OCZ ZS Series 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £56.99
Total : £191.96 (includes shipping : £10.00).

any of these should be fine. i'd say go for the cm silent pro cuz its modular, even though its 9 quid dearer
if you're pretty certain that you're not gonna run dual gpu, then there's no need for anything higher

Thanks for those PSU's mate, I'm not really bothered at all about modular PSU's I don't have a windowed case and I don't have anyone to show my PC off to and there is always room to hide the wires for airflow. I'm the type of person that doesn't understand why most people have to have LED fans in their case etc.

Anyway after reading some reviews I'm swinging toward the XFX 650 I've read it has real stable power on the single rail. Overall it got a 9/10 so I have taken the advise from the above and not being a brand choice but more of a decent PSU. 650 is enough to power what I want and I have peace of mind the power is there for when I overclock etc.

650W is more than enough. The CM 600W (even with 480W on 12V rail) will have enough power, and it's probably the quietest of the lot. It doesn't have massively long cables if you have a big case.

I would consider the XFX XXX 650W as well.

While it's not bad per se, the XXX series is outdated (it's a variant of the Seasonic S12 platform which was in the Corsair HX and some VX units back in 2007-8).

This would be a better choice from XFX:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-003-XF&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1497

It's cheaper as well as being a step up in electrical quality\performance.

Sorry i should have been more specific, its the XFX pro 650 i was going to get not the XXX. i wanted the pro because it has the easy rail thingy and in the review the PSU had outstanding power flow. i have signed up to be emailed when its next in stock and im going to buy it. I have read somewhere that the XFX 650 pro is essentially a seasonic is this true?
