Hope someone can advise!
I have a newish rig which is powered by a Hyper 580R and having read some threads begin to wonder if it is the right choice in terms of reliabilty or power rating.
My rig comprises the following:
Gigabyte DQ6
Conroe E6700
4gb Geil 6400 Ultra low latency RAM
3 x WD Raptor 74gb
1 x WD Raptor 150gb
2 x Pioneer 111BK Optical Drives
1 x ATI X1900XT Video Card
1 x Belkin 4 port USB card
G-Power pro CPU cooler
1 x Floppy drive
The PC is not overclocked or overvolted.
Due to the cost of the above components, I am just wondering of I should invest in a better PSU as I would hate to lose the lot in a PSU blow out.

I'd be much obliged for any good advice on this.

I've heard very mixed opinions on the Hiper PSUs.

Everyones been recommending the Corsair 620W lately, so might be worth looking at that :)

TBH there are probably a lot more people with good experiences with Hiper than those with bad ones, so if it's working fine for you then you should be OK, just don't get another Hiper in the future.

But obviously a new PSU will be the safest way. As suggested Corsair have very nice PSUs, so do Seasonic, Tagan, OCZ, Enermax, & Antec.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

Before ordering a new PSU does anyone have a quick calculation on how to work out the power consumption of a rig?

Also anyone want to single out a prticular PSU as the very very very best? :D

Sell the Hiper and get a decent brand of psu. It will blow sooner or later.

That's a bit extreme. Not every Hiper PSU blows up, and it's not only Hiper PSUs that blow up.
