PSU question

I have an old but very reliable Enermax PSU which I bought when I had an XP2600 and Lanparty UltraB

It has a 20 connector and a 4 pin.

I'm seriously thinking about going Core2due. Now I know that the 20pin connector has grown to 24 but I do have a converter. Which worked fine on my P5P800SE and P4D805 (until the mobo burst into flames due to the PentiumD running at 3.8 drawing soooo much juice), so I'm guessing that this should be ok.

I guess that the 4 pin connector has remained unchanged also? If not please advice.

The PSU also has no PCI-E power cables? Can my new video card be run from a Molux-PCI-E converter?

I'd love to be able to keep this PSU and can't really afford to replace it if I don't need to. You thoughts on feasability will be appreciated.

yes you could keep your psu. and your graphics card running from a molex to 6 pin converter would be fine. but it is probably still a better option just to try and save some money. maybe for christmas or something and get a new psu.

Thats good to know Johnno. Many thanks

IMO a PSU should always be at the top of any shopping list (or near the top), especially if you have an old one with many 'uncertainties' :D Without sounding like an old-record, a PSU is as important as a CPU. & like a CPU or any other component that doesn't cut-it any more you upgrade. So stop attaching things, crossing fingers, etc & invest in a new PSU!

Point taken guys but this is neither faulty/dying or very, very old. It is of good quality and medium power rating and high power in it's day.

I have faith in it I just wanted to know whether:

a) 460 good quality watts was enough to power and Oc'ed e6300 & 7900GTO? &

b) Do the converter cables work fine or is the supply degraded in any way?

I would change it but tbh I just don't have the money.

Watts should just be enough. But how are the Amps on the Rails? is the +12v split?

Now that I don't know,

How do I go about finding out? It's an Enermax "ActivePFC", thats the name as well as the feature. Looked the Enermax site and there's no where to check specs of old products?

You sure its not very very old if even not on website? :D

Also, see this ;)

If I get it out of the case tomorrow I can copy the stats from the unit itself. What (pun) sorta amp rating am I looking for on the 12v rail hp?

>22A

If split/separate, add up & should be as above :)

EDIT: For a 7900GTO should even be 26A or higher, I think :(

So is 22a what you added up on that list or just that you think the new machine will need 22-26?

That PC isn't even on but if I take the case off the full tower and disturb my Missus TV again today I will be shot

I'll wait until she goes back to London this evening and check :o
