PSU question

I hope someone can answer a question on PSU's.

I am looking to upgrade to a 8800 but have been told I need to upgrade my psu to 600w+ first.

I see from other posts here that some people are using 520w.

I have a one year old 550w psu running :

AMD 64 x 2 4400+
2 GB memory
ASUS A8N-SLI
256MB 7900 GT
2 x HDD
DVDRW
X52 HOTAS

Would this psu cope with a 8800?

What make and model is your PSU?

The PSU is a HEC-550TD-PTE.

You don't need a 600W PSU - the corsair 520 will be more than sufficient.

I mis-read your original post - I thought you WERE looking to replace your PSU.

I've never heard of your current power supply so I don't know if it would be good enough. You could risk it and replace the PSU later if you find it isn't upto the job.

Review

HEC Herolchi seem to be an OEM supplier that do a small amount of retail.

I found the above review which seems to be fairly positive, if I was you I would keep present PSU seems as though it will do the job.
