PSU Question

Hey Guys and Gals,

Just wondering if anyone can help me out here, im doing quite a big upgrade to my machine and i have a PSU question.

First im buying these parts:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB)
  • EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
  • EVGA nForce 780i SLI *** nForce 780i (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
  • GeIL 4GB (4x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

I notticed the in comments for the EVGA nForce 780i SLI *** that i need 24 pin and a 8 pin connector and at present i have a Hiper 580 Type R PSU with the detachable connectors and it only has 6 pins, is it possible to buy the connectors serperatly? or am i better off just upgrading my PSU aswell?
 
Yikes! That's quite scary about the Hiper's.

Hmmm iv always been using NVIDIA but i guess i could move over to ATI and try it out.

Thinking about SLI it would probably quite some time before i "need" to get that as i dont play games like Crysis ect just MMO's and some FPS's ect so by the time that happens everything would be out of date again.

Ok so far i think this looks ok:

  • Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
  • GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
  • Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI
  • Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB)

I almost went for a Tagan PSU but there is probably a reason why you did not list that.

I'm looking at coolers at the moment actually lol, just trying to get a horizontal CPU cooler that wont hit any of the heatsinks
 
My case has a pipe going from the side case fan to the CPU fan pulling air from it but i sapose i could take that off and change my air flow around.
 
lol yeah thats the one, ah well it went from PSU problem to a whole overhall, you have been a great help pasty cheers.
