hi everyone, i'm new to this so sorry if I miss out some information or something. I wondered if someone could give me a bit of help regarding my new build and my existing PSU. I've ordered a core i7 920, asus P6T motherboard, 6gb Corsair XMS3 13333mhz memory and an Nvidia GTX 280 graphics card. i'm just wondering if my existing PSU, a JN-600-AP 600W would be sufficient. If anyone could give me a bit of advice I'd be really gr ateful. if Ido need a new pSU, what would you recommend? I really haven't got a lot left after my new build so I'd have no more than about £75-£80 for one if I need one. Thanks.

That one should do you wattage wise, try it out, if it doesnt manage it its more likely to be not enough amps coming off the rail, So within your budget Id go for this Corsair one here

Output will be OK provided the PSU actually delivers what it claims, and the 12V rails have sensible Amps. For a while I ran a similar rig using an Enermax 620w (2x 22A 12V rails) with no issues. Only high-end PSUs actually deliver what they are rated at, and do so quietly and and still run cool. As mentioned the 280GTX needs 6+8 pin connectors.

Is this your current psu? 2x 12v rails with 19a on each. Only a 6 pin pci-e plug though. Not sure if that's enough amps for your card either. What does a GTX280 require?

Yes pastymuncher, that's the PSU i've got. I've done a bit of research and it seems the GTX 280 requires 40A over the 12V rails. my PSU provides 36A over them. I've seen some adaptors which I could use which convert 2 x 4 pin molex to 6 pin pcie. is it worth investing about £10 in one of those or am I just better off getting a new PSU?
