PSU QUESTION

If a psu is rated at 1000w does it draw 1000 watts all the time when on, or only draws what it needs upto a maximum of 1000watts



If that don't make sense just let me know

Onlys draws up the amount of wattage that is needed... they are smart like that =)

thx for the answer i thought they did but just wanted to check, only if my 50 inch plasma would do the same thing i'd save a fortune on electric each month

What on earth do you need a 1kW PSU for?

Or was it just hypothetical?

just typing 1000 seemed easier than 650 at the time lol

altho i did see a video of a guy installing a 1600watt power supply to his (i've got more money than sense build.. Shame i can't link the video
but it had i7 975,1600watt psu 2x ati 5970's,12gb ram, extreme 3 mobo,a coolermaster v10 plus a whole load of extra stuff he wasted god knows how much on.
