PSU Question

Like any component, using it(PSU) creates wear and tear. In standby, the motherboard is still fed power via PSU, PSU's are said to have the shortest life in a PC. So I say, when not in use turn it off and save on the bill.

as above + look at any psu reviews and you will see that psu's are most efficient when at around 50% loaded, you will also see that psu's are more efficient at 100% load than they are at 20% load.

i wonder if the motherboard capacitors are still charged up when in standbay mode, i know the system ram is still being fed power unless a suspend to disk is done.
as always, if your computer is just too damn slow and takes 25 mins to boot to windows then your better off using suspend mode.

if you got a velociraptor (like me) or ssd then you dont need to bother with suspending crap since your boot to windows will be less than 30 secs.

I thought it would be best to leave a pc running 24hrs, the components don't have to suffer repeated heat cycles, psu doesn't receive that initial shock at switch on.

Obviously this will send your electric bill sky high.

More heat and load equals shorter lifespan. PSU's are rated thousands of hours, so the longer the on, the less life you have from that PSU, but thats based on I presume avergae loads..
