PSU questions

My Enermax PSU died, so they sent me a replacement, which was nice. But in the meantime, I put in a VERY cheap stop-gap PSU, which I've kept in for the moment as it's caused no problems.

My current GPU is a ti4200 64mb AGP and this cheap PSU has had no problems with it. I'm going to buy the 7600gt AGP which OcUK have just got hold of, and I have (somewhere??) seen that the wattage use is quite low for this card.

I can't find a Geforce 4 article which tells me the wattage of that card, because if it's similar to the 7600GT, theoretically I could just keep the PSU that I have? Anyone know where I might find this info? If I just try this new card on my cheap PSU, will it damage the card if it doesn't like it, or will it be safe to try it out?? The replacement Enermax is still sealed so I can sell it as brand new / unused if I don't need it.

Yes, it's the amps on the 12V rail that is the issue?? I don't have the info on this PSU, I'm 99% sure it was 350Watts, but no idea on the rails info - it literally came out of a brown OEM box and cost me £10 Would 14A really be okay?

I know my system doesn't use much power - PSU calculators I've tried put my system at about 250Watts.

Sorry but this makes no sense to me. You've got a brand new Enermax sitting there and your wondering if a £10 PSU may damage your future 7600gt, why bother chancing it? Just fit the Enermax back into your system and you'll have nothing to worry about. It never pays to run a cheapo PSU at the best of times, imo.

Fair comment. I will probably do this. Although the original Enermax one packed in, the cheap one has been rock solid.
