I have asked a couple of weeks ago about the best silent spu to go in my htpc.

I have been directed to the Be Quiet range but a number of users on the forums.

I have noticed the OCUK have some good deals on with

OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Modular Power Supply
This Week Only Offer £54.99 inc VAT

I have also seen this from another etailer

Nexus Real Silent 500Watt Power Supply Unit
£56.35 inc free delivery

So I have not made up my mind. I know the OCZ has more punch and the Be Quiet are more expensive. I have not heard on Nexus but the read ups are good of there sites (as would be expected).

Please could you give me your thoughts?

As above.

But if it's your average size HTPC and you want a silent'ish rig the Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 450W is definitley a contender - even with it's hefty price tag.

Spec is

Intel Q6600 @ 2400mhz
ATI 4670 512mb
4GB 800mhz Ram 2x2g
1 x lightscrib DVD burner
500G Sata 2 drive
1 x tv in card
Couple of usb items, Webcam and usb pens.

Will add a second hard drive going forward pro 500 or 1tb sata 2 and clock the cpu a little in a couple of months time if needed.

Well all the PSU's suggested so far will power that - it comes down to budget and what you're comfortable with.

That's hefty CPU for a HTPC (not a complaint BTW - just an observation) - and with that in mind will you be upgrading the gfx card too in the future?

I wanted to make it so I have to do not messing for a number of years. CPU was a plus as no changing that for what I use it for. The graphics card is a new one this week from a 2400 pro. I wanted the hdmi output to LCTV and be able to play blueray films and HD content direct to 40" Samsung. Very light gaming.

I am fine with a max of £60 for the PSU. My main points on it are the noise and the heat output as venterlation is poor and thats why I cant clock the CPU because of the heat the current cheap PSU is giving out (cooking the case).

I've got a similar spec HTPC & its powered by a Seasonic S12 430, so any decent 450 watt PSU will power yours. If you have a HTPC case I suggest a modular PSU like the BeQuiet or OCZ or Corsair.

The cosairs have a nosie level of 21.5 db

so is 2.6db worth it as there will probably be a componet louder than that? even WD green hard drives reach 25db

so +1 corsair 400W @ £41
