PSU requirement for new build

Could someone please confirm if the PSU Im looking at is okay for my new setup?

Partpicker is estimating 350w.

Ryzen 3600
GTX 1660
Hyper 212 or Noctua
2 x 16GB LPX
1x M2 NVME
1x SSD Sata
1x 4TB HDD
B450M mortar max MATX
80mm fan
up to 3 120mm fans

PSU is Seasonic Focus SGX 450w GOLD

As much as Seasonic are solid units, I wouldn't spend £98 on that 450w... The Seasonic 550w Leadex is currently on offer at £60... Bargain, will be more than enough and allows for future components to be upgraded

Thanks for the suggestion but I will need a SFX PSU as its going into a ITX / MATX case that can fit either 1) ITX board and ATX PSU or 2) MATX board and SFX PSU. So I either pay more for the board or the PSU.

That's okay. I appreciate your efforts. Do you think the 450 will be okay? Cant see myself upgrading anytime soon (5yrs) and by then itll all be redundant and Ill start again. I read somewhere I need about 100w headroom over what partpicker recommends, not sure if that's BS or not.

Ive done builds in the past using 450w units and they've ran fine... I always aim now for 550w just because I upgrade to many times if you plan on overclocking etc then maybe aim 500w upwards if not then I'd say the 450w will do a grand job

Thanks, I wont be OCing. Small case so will be keeping temps down, the next step up in SFX wattage becomes silly money. It might be worth looking into an A/B. MB + PSU combo price differences, the only thing is ITX board and ATX PSU I will likely lose slots and board quality due to cost ( Gigabyte B450-I AORUS PRO WIFI) so possibly a worse move?

I had the GIGABYTE Aorus-I PRO WI-FI B450 Motherboard, its an all round great board the only problem is that with ITX boards you lose Slots for RAM and PCIe

Yeah, that's why I thought the wiser move was a smaller PSU.

Ill be filling 2 of the 4 slots with 2x 16gb, if I ever need a bit more speed then I could add another 2 x 16GB. Mortar Max will do 64GB total.

Thanks for the suggestion but IF I am cutting it fine with wattage I may as well pay the extra, just in case. As long as a 450W Gold PSU will do a good job with this setup.

If you shop around a bit you can find the excellent Corsair SF 450w for £85.64 and the SF 600w for £106.05 both including delivery. Both are gold rated fully modular units with all of their power available on their single 12v rails. Both are built by Great Wall for Corsair and have recieved excellent reviews with Jonnyguru giving the 450w 9.9/10 here and the 600w 9.7/10 here. Both have a 7 year warranty and at 25mm shorter than the Seasonic will give you a little extra space to play with.

Thanks for the recommendation, I have found the Seasonic for only £70, is it the better buy?

Another question, it seems I can spend £180 on a 1660 or about £160 on a RX590, the £20 could swing either way PSU or GPU (1660 using nearly 100w less). What would you go for?

Just a heads up, the 1660 Super is only £20 more than the vanilla 1660 and performs within a few FPS of the 1660ti, it's a much better buy in my opinion.

Regardless, even the vanilla 1660 is generally a little quicker than the RX590 while consuming a fair bit less power. Although it's worth noting that the RX580/590's respond well to undervolting, I've done so with my RX580 and it consumes a lot less power than it did at stock, also generates a lot less heat and in turn noise.

Thanks, the RX590 still looks a good choice for a fair bit less cash than than the ti and performance seems nearly on par with the super (about £200), so its £165 / £200 / £235. Ive gone for a SF600 platinum PSU to cover any future upgrades so mainly stuck on GPU and Motherboard to finish my shopping list.
