ok i need a decently powerful psu around 500w probably, as i am intending to upgrade to core 2 duo soon but i want a repliable and safe one that will protect my mobo, cpu, etc. if there was to be a power surge, i want a quiet psu. now to the main question....what should i go for? i have heard seasonic are the quietest and are a very good make, also heard enermax are reliable and corsair are quiet, opinions please.

cheers

Corsair PSUs are currently based pretty much on the Seasonic M12 design but they are a little cheaper. You can't really go wrong with any of the PSUs you have mentioned so I'd probably suggest going with the cheapest of the selection.

I'd recommend you buy a surge protection strip or similar though as that would protect the PC(and PSU) better than just relying on a fairly expensive PSU to sacrifice itself.

I went through 2 Enermax Liberty 620w's (both just stopped powering up) then I ordered a Seasonic M12 and couldn't be happier.

I bet you could if it made coffee also, I too have a Seasonic 500W, best PSU i've ever used, but buying now I would get the M12 series because of the braided cables.
