Folks is there also a PSU shortage?
I know we got GFX cards and CPU shortages, but PSUs as well?
Im looking to get something for an i9 10900/MSI Ace setup.
Is the Phanteks 1000W reasonable?
Or should I look elsewhere?
I don’t think there has ever been a time where so many production lines have been shut down at the same time, I don’t think we will recover to pre covid stock levels until the middle of next yearThere is. Its due (probably) to:
1. People buying the latest (or planning to) buy the latest Release GPU's which have 750w & higher requirement.
2. Scalpers thinking that a fair amount of people are doing the above & buying up stock.
3. PSU manufacturing not keeping up with demand & the 'bug' hampering this as well as everything else.
4. I read a rumour that Cryptocurrency mining is getting popular again & mining 'farmers' are buying up stock again.
The Phanteks Revolt is a very good PSU, its the only PSU that will power a Dual System rig (I think) OCUK has stock due in on Monday, so I would be hitting that F5 button then, phone them or send a webnote.
I have always sworn by seasonic/evga or super flower TBH, I don’t really know much about the Phanteks, there are a few other sites that have them in stock but can’t link on Oc forums, I would always direct anyone who wants a new psu to the 3 brands I have said, because of component quality and also warranty support and lengthCheers woppy, any recommendation about the above?
Platinum is just the efficiency rating like gold and bronze but there's nothing wrong with getting a 1000w psu it will be under less stress than a 750w counterpart. Is 1000W overkill? I heard some people say 750W is minimum and getting 850 gives a bit more buffer, so for future proofing thought Id go with the 1000W.
I thought Platinum just adds a layer of extra quality...
Anything wrong with this approach and going for 1kW Revolt X? Or even a 1.2kW?
Definitely not it just give you more head room and makes sure your PSU doesn’t have to work as hard, which in turn makes it more efficient, if you have the money a 1000w will be all you need and with a 10/12 year warranty it’s a component you can forget about for a decadeIs 1000W overkill? I heard some people say 750W is minimum and getting 850 gives a bit more buffer, so for future proofing thought Id go with the 1000W.

For that "Double the TDP to get real max draw" space heater of Intel 1kW is rather fine.Is 1000W overkill? I heard some people say 750W is minimum and getting 850 gives a bit more buffer, so for future proofing thought Id go with the 1000W.

Phanteks PSUs are made by Seasonic.I don’t really know much about the Phanteks
Really I’d didn’t know that, are they rebadged or different production line? For that "Double the TDP to get real max draw" space heater of Intel 1kW is rather fine.
(For Ryzens lower would be enough to cover absolute max draw with margin)
Though efficiency during most of the PC's power on time, like all the time you spent of this forum or elsewhere in we, suffers some.
Any efficiency rating doesn't guarantee absolute quality.
Though 80+ Platinum effiency definitely needs some amount more from design and component quality than 80+ Gold.
Hence it can't be built using as cheap parts.
Especially semiconductors need to be better with faster on/off transitions, lower RDSon etc.
Though beyond efficiency performance can still be so and so regardless of rating.
Like Silvertone's Strider Titaniums being rather meh.
Phanteks PSUs are made by Seasonic.
(which is how Corsair started in PSUs)
