Bought an Enermax PSU and only just fitted it again as i was waiting for a new Motherboard but it is making an odd smell. Doesn't really smell like burning but not sure if it should smell like it does.

Thing is, i bought it online and i don't want to return it if the supplier says it is ok and then charges me to return it back to me!! It is approx 3 weeks old.

I remember someone on here not long ago talking about a smell coming from a new PSU. When I had a system a couple of years ago I had a similar thing. I ignored it and it went away. You can always phone the sell and ask them what to do in their opinion - put the ball in their court.

New electronic items will sometimes do this, as rodo says make the supplier aware as you have also logged the issue, so if it ever comes to the point where there is a fault they can see that you did report it, Personally I would not worry but worth getting advice from supplier,

I had an old PC once and a shop replaced the PSU and when in use it gave a funky smell. I just ran it for a few days and it eventually burnt away. Must say, I've never noticed it on any new items since, but it probably just needs burning in. Just as long as it's not a burning smell you should be ok. :)

Wouldn't say a vague smell from a new psu was a problem,it's usually a sign of trouble if the unit's been in service for some time.Had a family member's antec 400 'start to smell like TCP but its still working';it lasted a week (dead caps).

I got an enermax yesterday and it had the new " freshly opened package" smell. Can't say I can smell it now when I installed it. Having spent a small fortune on it, I seriously hope it doesn't go wrong!

Hard to say. A bit like when you smell a new Printable CD / DVD. But stronger!! It seems stronger by the DVD Drive!! No CD's / DVD's in it though! I have unplugged it but still a smell there! Can't blame the wife as she is upstairs!! lol

I would use it for a while and see if it goes away. Sometimes new stuff can smell it does not mean anything is wrong with it.

Just something you should keep an eye on. And if its still their after a good bit of use then it might be worth returning.
