PSU sometimes not working

Ok, I've been having so many issues with my PC it's ridiculous.

here's the whole story...

Moved house and decided i wanted new computer components too!

i bought a new mobo,cpu,memory:
  • AMD FX-8350 8-Core FX Series
  • 8GB 2x4G CML8GX3M2A1600C9B LP
  • Gbyte GA-970A-DS3P Motherboard

i also have a 970
  • 4GB EVGA GTX970 SC ACX2.0 PCIE
  • Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 Sound Card

The PC sometimes wouldn't turn on and the PC was constantly freezing for about 10 seconds so I went back to the store where they tested the components. the CPU and MOBO were both apparently faulty, i was handed back my memory and I re-bought the mobo and cpu.

I installed the parts again and the freezing had gone! Yay, however the PC sometimes wouldn't turn on. If i turned off the PSU from the back for 10secs+ and then turned back on it would boot up fine. I thought I can't possibly have bad components again and maybe the previous components were destoryed by my PSU.

I ordered a refurbished PSU
  • 750W CP-9020031-NA/RF HX750

installed it and pc booted up every time without issue. however the new PSU had ridiculous amount of coil whine. I wasn't going to buy another one so I rma'd my new PSU.

received a
  • HX750i

installed, coil whine still very much noticeable

corsair suggested sending back to their american office so I sent back my 2 PSU's i had. I received new power supplies, installed one and the coil whine was much quieter but still there.

fast forward 2-3 months and the coil whine started to really annoy me. so i splashed out some more money on another brand of PSU.

  • EVGA SuperNOVA 750W

installed it on Wednesday this week, turned it on and yay no coil whine! all my problems are now gone and it's only taken my months.

Went to turn on PC on Friday and nothing. turned off the PSU from the back for 10+secs and turned back on again. booted up without issue. So now I'm at a loss.

my thoughts are:
bad plug socket ground?
bad motherboard?
surely it can't be the new PSU. I can't be that unlucky?

sorry for long thread but thought giving out everything I've done so far will help narrow down the issue.

on another note, my pc has now started doing that freezing thing again. I think it might be chrome making it freeze?

edit - I've just taken out my sound card because I forgot I had that, will see if that helps with not starting up.

after having taken out my sound card last night I came to turn on my pc tonight and same thing again. Have now unplugged external speakers and will
see where i get with that tommorow

edit - have now tried a different plug socket, by itself, and a new kettle lead. still the same issues. will rebuild pc tommorow and see if that solves it. if not I'm buying a new mobo again :(

rebuilt the pc, there were no motherboard mounting screws touching anything of the motherboard that it shouldn't, no loose screws under motherboard, nothing. still had the same issue.

put in my friends PSU, as he just rebuilt his pc, it's not powerful enough to run my pc but was enough to test booting issue. PC was starting up every time with this PSU so it has to be the new PSU I ordered that's faulty, how can someone be this unlucky?

order a replacement PSU which came today, put it in and it booted up. shut-down pc, came back 5 mins later and tried to turn on pc and nothing, turn PSU off from back and back on again and pc will boot.

I'm really at a loss now, why would my friends PSU boot every time and the two PSU's I've bought in the last week both don't?

that was the next thing I had planned to do, which I have done tonight. took mobo out and put on my wooden desk.

turned on, off, waited, wouldn't boot. so not a case issue
removed GPU same thing
removed a stick of memory same thing
remove another stick, same thing,
changed my heatsink to oem one, instead of my v8, won't boot.

put in one stick of memory and it boots everytime
put in another, doesn't boot.
removed second stick and put in gpu, doesn't boot.
put in old gpu(570) and it doesn't boot

with so many different combinations I don't know what's going on, new mobo I think.

new mobo arrived today and seems to have fixed the issue. I got a different brand of mobo and can't seem to install my mobo drivers so I think I'll be doing a clean windows install now.

but to sum up, fixed.

just when you think your troubles are gone, they aren't.

as I said above I couldn't install my mobo drivers and was having issues with my display resolution on my graphics card was going to 1024*768 with no option of selecting a higher resolution and my second monitor, connected via display port, was black with no option of enabling the monitor.

I reinstalled window 10 today, I still couldn't reinstall my mobo drivers but windows 10 apparently doesn't require any. installed audio and lan drivers and then my graphics drivers. My second monitor now works but my primary monitor, connected via dvi, was still on a res of 1024*768. I borrowed my friends dvi cable and the same resolution, I borrowed my friends monitor and I had an option of 1920*1080 so I presumed my monitor was dead, again how unlucky can someone get. I selected 1920*1080 and the monitor didn't look like it was 1920*1080, still looked 1024*768. I plugged the monitor into my second dvi port and the resolution was much better. so maybe the dvi port on my graphics card was broken?

to double check I plugged my monitor into my friends pc and nothing. wouldn't even recognise it. I plugged my friends monitor back into his pc and nothing again. I the dvi cable that works on his second monitor into his monitor and nothing again.

to sum up:
My Monitor is broken
My Friends monitor is now broken.

help?

In my mind the only thing that could be causing all these issues would be my electrics. I noticed my power surge protector extension protection led light to indicate the power surge protection is working was out. So i've bought a new power surge protector and plugged it in, the new one had the green light to indicator the power surge protector was working was on. I also tried my ground, neutral and live wire on my plug socket with a "uk plug tester" to ensure my socket has a good connection on all wires.

I've contacted masterplug to see if the plug could be causing all my issues.

I've also now tried the 2 monitors in a 3rd pc. they are not working on the 3rd pc either. I have power but "no signal".

have contacted my graphics card manufacturer to double check the dvi port couldn't possibly cause this issue and acer to see what they could possibly think is causing the issue.

I've opened up my acer monitor to check for obvious signs or a power surge but can't see anything wrong in the pcb, no blown capacitors and no signs of a power surge around the pcb.
