My PSU bought in April last year has started to sound really noisy like a hard disk accessing when its about to die, not all time just every 30 secs or so.

Does it need a clean out of dust (whole system isn't really that dusty as I keep it clean but PSU needs removing to get too) or does it sound like its faulty?

Thanks :)

blow a can of air into it once its out of the case that is

Ex-Pro® High Quality Compressed Air Cleaner or other type

if that doesn't make any difference then replace before it goes down and you have the risk of it taking something else with it.

once out of the case and clean, leave a few mins b4 you use it, as it will be cold when sprayed etc, so let it get back to temp b4 use a few mins inside is plenty

canned air is good as you can do psu and fans etc every few months, really keeps them working well as dust = heat = death of parts

take the psu out of your base unit/ tower never open a psu!

If you can't sort it out with a bit of dust removal RMA it. It must still be in warranty, which you will void if you open it up.

Thanks zakblood, I'll give it a go with the air. Also seen something on youtube about an XFX PSU that the fan comes a little loose and if you push down on the centre with a pencil end to locate it properly into the bearing it can cure it. But as Blue160 says, I won't be opening it up as its still in warranty so if no joy will RMA it. Thats a bit of a pita as that means no pc!
