I bourght a new PSU for my old Dell a few weeks ago so I could run a HD4850 before I build my new PC, however the PSU I bourght, an OCZ 500 watt StealthXtreme has now developed a "squeal" whenever the PSU is connected to power even if the computer is off, would an RMA be best here? I have removed it from my PC and am running the original PSU and my old GFX card to be safe.

I have tested the new PSU outside the PC and I get the same thing, my old PSU in my PC currently makes no noise at all.

The "squeal" is high pitched but not very loud, and I only really notice it when the PC is off or if I turn the fan on my 4850 down to minimum when the PC is on (it's quite a loud card). I havn't experienced any problems with the PSU, and have not changed anything in terms of voltages etc, it was a simply swap from my old PSU.

Thanks.

As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that should make any audible noise in any PSU is the cooling fan. I'd ask for a replacement.

I've only ever heard such a noise in computer components that have several years under their belt. I can tolerate it in those circumstances, but I wouldn't accept it in a new product.
