Hi all,

My corsair tx 650w psu is emitting a very high pitch noise whilst my i7 system is at idle. Running a gtx 280 with this system and everything was fine with the same psu with my e6600 and abit x38 quad gt.

It only occurs when the cpu is idle, as soon as it is under any load it dissapears. I've started running prime when on the desktop to shut it up!

Any ideas why it could be doing this?

Thanks

are you sure it's the psu ? i would have thought it more likely from your graphics card . some nvidia cards suffer from capacitor squeel .

Yeah and its only when the cpu is idle, 10% load will take it away. The gtx 280 has been silent with the older hardware and it definitely sounds as if its coming from the psu. Confused as a decent 650 w psu shouldn't make noises like this!

I've got it also on my Coolermaster M700 with an i7 system and 4870x2, as soon as load is applied it makes the noise - opposite to yours.

Thought I could live with it but am going to RMA or maybe buy a more powerful/different psu. Its giving me headaches already :(

Perhaps there is a mouse in the system who squeaks so that you put 10% load into the system to warm up his house?

Check/re-connect all your connections.

Can confirm a similar squealing on my new M700. I'm RMAing it - the PCI-E cables are too short for my system anyway.

Haha one probably could live in between all the cables in there. Have reconnected everything and it's still making the noise when idle. I could cope with a bit of noise but it is very loud at a headache inducing pitch. Will email corsair see if they have anything to say!!

Thanks

The m700 I had caused a squealing noise from the capcitors on my mobo, I changed to a Be Quiet Dark power 650w and no more noise.
