Afternoon
I hate upgrading/changing my psu as its money spent without any real noticeable improvement!
unfortunately my current Antec TruePower 650W appears to be on the way out, or well more so the fan is, I think its the bearings or so its making a grinding/growling noise and its really quite noticeable when i lock all my other fans as low as possible to keep my pc as close to silent as I can. Its obviously the PSU fan as soon as I slow it down my headache disappears!
Well I've had a look back and its got about 6 months left on the 3 year warranty, so I'm thinking its probably worth trying to return it (yay Netherlands postage costs
) But it would leave me PSUless for a couple of weeks and they might just send the bloody thing back anyway as its been fairly intermittent (although its been constant for 2 days now). Anyway thats not happening, I'd rather buy another PSU now, RMA this one back and then sell on whatever they send me back (presumably another model as they dont stock this one anymore)
So here I am! asking for a bit of advice as according to the internet someone somewhere will call any PSU rubbish in one way or another you just can't win.
I would prefer it to be modular (I can route the cables round the back/other side but it seems overkill when I only use 2 sata devices)
Quiet is a large factor in my decision, ones where the fan doesnt even kick in till it reaches a certain load/temp would be quite tasty as most of my time these days is actually on the desktop and I'm barely pulling 110w from the wall
Price, well obviously cheaper the better, moneys fairly tight but I realise its worth it with a PSU. £70-80? I could probably stretch to £100.
I think my current 650W is plenty I doubt I'll ever go crossfire I just prefer keeping it to 1 card since my cases airflow is naff, so I guess anything between 550-750? would be plenty
I've been looking at the Corsair range (always said when i needed my next PSU I'd get a Corsair) particularly the TX650M and the HX650 but I've heard some weird chirping issue with the HX? not sure how true that is or how many it affects. Apart from that I guess Seasonic would be an obvious choice of some sort? BeQuiet puts me off because I've built a few PC's for friends in the past using them and some of the cable length was shocking, not sure if thats changed? OCZ can go die a horrible death I've had 2 OCZ psu's and both have ended up blowing up and filling my PC with black smoke for no reason
. XFX orrr Enermax?
Any suggestions? Maybe I've overlooked someone or things have changed recently, can't say I really keep in the loop with PSU's!
Thanks
