My psu is a powercool x-viper modular 850w 80+ bronze. And when I was building the pc before I had an ssd or hdd it would power up the system with no problems. But when I plugged in the ssd and hdd then installed windows I started to have problems. It just keeps switching off. Most of the time after the beep on boot up. Sometimes after several hours. And when it does switch of I cannot restart the system without unplugging the power and waiting a bit. What is going on here? And this is a second hand psu so I can't take it back for a replacement.

Oh dear. Sorry to tell you this but Powercool psu's are garbage and a bit of research on the internet would have told you that. They are really poor quality and I doubt very much that so called 850w psu will ever get anywhere near that on the 12v rail. These things are only £59 brand new which should set the alram bells ringing as any decent 850w modular psu is going to cost much more than that. The psu is argueably the single most important component in a pc and is not the place to save money. It would seem that as soon as any slight load is applied it is too much for the psu and it's tripping out.

You had better edit your siggy before a mod see's it. We are only allowed 4 lines of text.

God damn it. Well I paid £50 for the psu, mobo, processor, graphics and ram. So not a huge loss but luckily I have a spare 200w for now that is holding solid so far.

Didn't know there was a signature limit but I have briefly shortened it. But I can't see it on my mobile.
