It has been some time since I messed about with upgrading. My current system was built 2018/19 running 9600k with 1080 on a EVGA 650w GQ. It has been a reliable PSU and has running my system faultlessly for 4+ years now. However, I'm upgrading some kit in my system and I need to replace the PSU to give me comfortable headroom for overclocking and future upgrading.
The calculators are all suggesting around 750-850 based on the equipment I'm going to be running. Though I'm thinking something 850w - 1000w.

My issue is I dont really know whats what in the PSU market, which brands are good which to completely avoid, could someone with knowledge suggest some options please? Ideally a few options. A decent middle of the road PSU, a very good option, and a brilliant top of the line option.

Requirements (from what I can gather)
  • 850w +
  • Fully modular
  • gold/platinum?
  • £150-200, this can be increased for the right equipment if required.
Planned spec
  • 9900k (moderately OC'd)
  • rtx 3070 (Possibly OC'd)
  • Gigabyte Aorus z390 Ultra
  • 32gb 3600mhz DDR4 (Stock XMP profile)
  • 1x 1tb NVME, 2x 1tb SSD's
  • Watercooling system with 1x D5 (1x Molex)
  • 4x 120mm fans
  • 2x 140mm fans
  • Corsair LL RGB setup (Requires SATA connection pwr)
If you more info is required just let me know!
Any help that can provided will be greatly appreciated.

and be done with it. 1kw ATX 3.0/PCIE5 to carry on in your next build

850w for 30 notes cheaper
if you're never going to get top-of-the-range 4090 class gpus then 850w should be sufficient for nearly all build specs

Just a quick query in regards to ATX 3.0, as thats something I'm not familiar with. Would there be any compatibility issues with older tech in my system? Or is it simply the addition of 12v connector for Nvidia cards?
I'd be as well just going with 1000w, that said... If I were to have the budget for a 4090 the price of a new PSU wouldnt really be a concern:cry:

In theory, the ATX 3.0 spec should make the PSU capacity less of a concern, because it mandates they can handle the spikes of modern graphics cards (a stock 4090 doesn't actually have an average that is remarkable, compared to previous gen cards), but I haven't seen any comparisons that put this to the test.

I ordered and have received the 1000w one quoted above. Seemed like a good deal with a lot of positive reviews. Yet to fit it, still waiting for some other parts to arrive which will be coming over the next few days.
