PSU Upgrade?

Hey

So I've just built myself a new PC, specs are:

AMD FX-8320
MSI 990FXA-GD65
8GB Kingston HyperX 1600
Sapphire HD7950 3Gb Boost
1Tb Seagate SSHD
Corsair Hydro H55 CPU Cooler

All is running great but when I fire up a game (FFXIV: ARR, Far Cry 3) a few minutes in the PSU fan spins up to max. I've also noticed the NB heatsink and VRM heatsink get extremely hot. I've read that an under powered PSU can cause things to overheat so maybe this is it?

PSU is CoolerMaster RS-500-PCAP-I3. Time to upgrade even though its brand new?

im running a similar spec in my sig and use a 850w
i suspect the psu is too low
you want something like a 750w/850w seasonic,silverstone,xfx,antec,ocz

Theoretically that PSU should be fine unless it's faulty.

Nevertheless I'd be aiming for a 650w psu at least

The only info i can find on a CM RS-500-PCAP-I3 comes up as a OEM psu with only 20A (240w) on the 12v rail. If that's the case get a new one asap before it blows up. Just because a psu says 500w on the label doesn't mean it can deliver that wattage on the 12v rail where it is needed. A lot of psu's will make it up on the minor rails where it's not needed.

Reason why they get hot is because the 8320 is a high power chip and aluminium VRM sinks cool the MOSFETs passively. Unless you are getting throttling, the VRMs getting hot are not an issue.

can you pinch a psu from a friend just to test or even take it down to a local independent computer guy?

I tried a friends cheap 680w PSU and that actually went pop!

I was thinking of getting a Corsair CX750M unless you guys can think of something better for about the same price as long as its modular and has 4 PCI-E connectors.

nothing wrong with the ocz zt 750 it has some good reviews just because it isnt made by seasonic doesnt mean its not good PLUS you get 5 years warranty!

750w is a waste of money for a single card plus for the money you get a more reputable brand for less/similar money!
