Hi,

Looking for advice on where I should stand with my PSU warranty before I contact the manufacturer (Hyper).

The PSU's have a 3 year warranty with them (as stated on there website). Back in Dec 2007 my PSU stopped working, RMA'ed this with not much problem and got sent a replacement. Now this replacement has just blown :(, putting the serial number into the Hyper RMA page it says that it is outside it warranty period.

So the question: Is the warranty from my initial purchase or 3 years from when I received my replacement?

Cheers

Well only have proof of original purchase which is out side the 3years (2005) but the replacement in 2008 (01/01/2008 when I got it) is still well in warranty thought as the serial is out of date on there website they might have given me old stock.

oic well i think the warranty is only valid from the first initial purchase
i mean if they restarted it again they would be losing out a lot of money :D mebbes its time for a new build:D

True.

Always time for a new build but monies dont really allow it :( I know it wouldn't be much to get a slightly better system, but I would need to buy something much better to justify it to myself (edit: to my other half!).

hmmm it used to be in by signature.....

CPU: AMD x2 3800 (@2.6GHz)
MOBO: DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-D 939 NVIDIA nForce4
RAM: 2GB GeIL 2x1GB PC3200 DDR400
GFX: Nvidia 9800 GTX PCI-E
HDD: Samsung 1TB + others
PSU: None now!!!!!!
CASE: COOLER MASTER CENTURION RC534 BLACK

If you get a fix/replacement, they may give you like a month or 2 extra (if it's at the end of the warranty), but the main warranty is always by the original purchase.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect they would cover this under warranty, but there's no harm in asking, you never know, they may supply another in the interests of customer relations. Goodness knows they still have a lot of work to do in regaining their reputation.

Probably time to upgrade then, go for something modular, seriously, you won't regret it when putting the system back together! I assume the old one wasn't?

Bit more information to offer. Warranty length depends on product, but generally does go from date of first purchase.

Say you buy a 3 year warranty one, and it dies within a year. It's replaced with a 5 year warranty model. This one is covered for five years from the date you bought the first one.

Probably time for a new one really :)

It was a modular one which is deff the way forward.

Was replaced with the same model so still only 3 years from purchase :( Good info to know though, cheers.

Will try giving them a call to see what they say but I doubt they will be up for replacing it.

So next question, Im after a midrange (500w-700w) modular PSU, whats best?

The Be Quiet seem well rated here, have they been used long enough to justify this? I cant really stretch to the costs of the seasonics.

bequiet are very highly rated indeed, but a fair bit more expensive than most. I would recommend corsair, as their PSU's are very good too, but having had another one go on me and having to return it to holland is a bit of a bummer, postage is astronomical. Not sure if bequiet have a localish return centre, but if they do i'd go with that. The newer coolermaster PSU's also seem to have gone down fairly well.

The only other ones i've looked at was BFG, with a lifetime warranty on most (maybe all?) and a return centre in wales it sounds good. Their PSUs often punch above their weight but i'm afraid they're not the best out there. Certainly worth a look though.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Antec, also make some good modular PSUs, think they're rebranded seasonic in some cases? Not entirely sure on that one, bit pricey though.

. I would recommend corsair, but having to return it to holland

Paraphrased, sorry. I'm gutted to hear that, rma to the Netherlands for ocz is ****ing me right off. Was going to use corsair next time to avoid that. Might stick with pc power and cooling after all
