Building PC for my mate and just wondering what PSU will power these?

Build 1:
E7400
ATI 4850/Nvidia 9800 GT
Samsung 320gb hdd
DVD-RW

Thinking either Akasa Ultra Quiet 400W or OCZ StealthXStream 400w, will it be enough? Or better with Corsair VX 450W?

Also building another one with
Build 2:
Q6600/E8500
ATI 4870/GTX 280
500gb hdd
DVD-RW

Not sure with this one, should i just stick with Corsair or go for Tagan/OCZ/other, will 500w enough?

Thanks

if your thinking of powering the 4870 i would go for more like a 600 - 650 watt power supply! the 4870 is a dam huge graphics card! needing two power ports!

That wont draw much more than 300-330watts mate, even going sli/crossfire wont get you much higher than 400watts, i dont like the OCZ power supplies myself, had a good few blow in my time...i would advise you go for the Corsair, one of the best in Power supplies and VERY quiet.

do you have a budget mate.? :)

You could get away with a 450w PSU, but will the cpu be overclocked in the future.
If the cpu will then might be worth investing in the Corsair 520w.

For build 1 max £45
For build 2 max £80

I would go for Corsair myself but these not for me and quite difficult for that budget either. They both wanting budget gaming build, the first one budget £725 for everything inc OS Vista Home Premium, 20" monitor, etc. The second one budget £1050 same again with everything included and OS Vista Ultimate 64, 22" monitor, etc

I don't think will be OC in the future.

Thanks

4850 can pull close to 250w on it's own, 300w for the 4870. 225w for the 9800GT.
65w for the E8500 or the E7400 and 95w for a Q6600.

By the time you've added fans and drives it's looking well into 300w, I'd be looking at 450w JIC.

For the second, you are hitting over 400w easily, so I'd spec up a little too.

Thanks for the input guys.

This is what i got for build 1 and it's over £725 as £725 is max.

ditch that speaker system, at that price it will be rubbish, probably better off using the headphones from your ipod

however if you plan using a vista then i strongly recommend getting 4gb of RAM

maybe get a cheaper graphics card, pretty sure a 4830 can handle a 20" screen

To give an idea of power draw, the rig in my siggy plus 5x 120mm fans, 2x 320GB hdd's, LG 22x DVDRW and a Zalman ZM-MFC2 multifunction controller draws a peak of 274w. That is with Orthos and Fur benchmark running at the same time meaning cpu and gpu are at 100% load. We don't need these huge psu's to power our rigs.

Mine is soon to be replaced by something smaller.
