PSU wattage?

Hey everyone, i've nearly decided on the spec for my new gaming rig.
This is what i've got so far:

  • i7 920 to be oc to 3.8 -4ghz
    Coolit Domino A.L.C Watercooler
    asus p6t deluxe
    corsair dominator 1600mhz, 6gb
    Samsung spinpoint F1 750 gb
    GTX 285 sli x2
    Antec 1200

What psu/wattage do you think i should go for. Was thinking of 1000w. From reviews i read an i7 920 @ 4ghz uses under load 375w and the GTX 285 sli combo uses around 550w. This totals to over 900w, does this mean i have to go for at least a 1000w psu. Though was wondering if i could get away with an 850w psu like an antec CP-850 as i can get it cheap, around £100.

Any advise on psu or other components would be most appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I was going to say around 800W should be fine. Are you sure that rating for the i7 is right? I'd imagine 375W to be total system power, including graphics card and such

Power at wall socket. BIOS Defaults, all onboard hardware enabled.

Really though, that's one of the most inefficient builds i've ever seen. It's going to hurt your wallet more than you're going to see a difference over more efficient components. Of course, if you'd rather pay the same as this costs on electricity per month and kill the planet while you're at it... then go ahead :p

Does anyone else have a similar spec rig and what psu are you using. 375 watts seems too high for an i7 920 @ 4ghz, does anyone have one and know of the watts it is using?

Thanks in advance!

That is total system draw, not just the CPU, this shows total system power draw, including 285SLI as 529W at load, there is no way you need 1000, 850 would be plenty, 750 even
That cheap WC system costs twice as much as a decent air cooler (noctua) and doesnt cool as well and produces more noise too
Why do you even need 285 SLI anyway?
