Is 500W enough for the following system?

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processo
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87MX-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 650 Ti 2GB Video Card
Case: BitFenix Prodigy M Midnight MicroATX Mini Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

A CX430 would be borderline with an overclocked 4670K and an overclocked GTX670. For example.

I wouldn't want to run a 4670K and 670 on a CX430, but it would cope. So a 4670K and a GTX650Ti on a CX500? It won't even come close to breaking a sweat!

No, that's wrong. You'll need a 500w PSU as a minimum with a GTX 670, as stated by Nvidia here

Then we have Guru3D's recommendations here which recommend a 550w PSU. Overclocking a 4670K by a reasonable amount can increase the power draw by up to 30w under load, which is a reasonable amount really.

Then we have the horrible toll overclocking a 650 Ti can take on the power supply as seen here. Sometimes the extra power required goes as high as 38w. Then there's the power requirements for overclocking RAM.

People under-estimate the drain on power overclocking can cause.

But it's academic as the op won't be overclocking anyway
 
I tested my old machine with the i7 2700k (overclocked to 4.4ghz) and the Gigabyte 670 WF card and this pulled 330w from the mains with the gpu and cpu being stressed.
 
It isn't wrong, NVIDIA are just being careful with their PSU recommendation. I doubt very much that the OP will be benching with the CPU and GPU at the self same time. People seem to grossly over-estimate the power draw of a modern system.

As RJC has stated, his system only pulled 330W from the mains with a less efficient CPU. If we assume that RJC's PSU is a basic 80+ unit (I'm sure it is better than that, but just for the purposes of this example bear with me) if we take the 330W and divide it by 80 then multiply that by 100 we can see that RJC's system would be fine with a PSU of 80+ efficiency with at least 413W output, most of which preferably on the +12v as that is where the bulk of the power usage is.

It is the amps that are the issue, rather than the wattage. The CX430 has 38 amps on its +12v rail, which meets the GTX670's 30 amp requirement. It also has around 385W of its total power on the +12v with an efficiency of between 82 and 85%. Taking into consideration the fact that the i5 4670K overclocked will draw less power than an i7 2700K overclocked by a notable margin, I'd say it's safe to assume that my statement was valid. :)

As I said, I wouldn't want to do it, but it is very possible. I was just making a point. :p

We aren't running C2E's and GTX2XX's anymore! :rolleyes:
