Psu weird noise

I have an older psu and I put it in a new pc. It got jolted a bit, but anyways, I plugged in the power cable and it started making a gig pitched faint noise, then when I left it plugged in for about 5 mins, it started to smell a bit like burning, but when I unplugged it it seemed fine. It never got hot or anything...

Any idea what happened?

Based on the fact it made weird noises and smelt like burning I'd recommend not using it - especially in a new build you might fry your components - especially if it's a cheapy PSU - I would recommend buying a new one with enough watts and from a respected brand - overclockers have plenty of course...
