PSU blew up and i think the rest of my rig was saved by the 5A fuse in the plug. It sounded like a electricity jumping from one tesla coil to another for about 2 seconds and then kapput, then there was a smell of welding about the place. A PSU never blew up on me before.

So I need to get a replacement. A quiet one, that PSU was very loud. I'd say a 400W will do plenty but a 2nd opinion would be much appreciated

I would spent a little extra and buy OCZ GameXStream 700w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply , this psu is amazing , its so quiet , i am always looking to see if the fan is still spinning , one thing i did not like is all the cables for upgrade ,i spent a hour or so having a good tidy up , you cannot go wrong this psu , its well worth the extra money

Are you looking at my rig at all??

I dont need a 700W PSU for it.

Out of stock, whats your 2nd choice, quietness would be nice to have this time, the old PSU was like an plane taking off

520W/450W OCZ Modstream.

I have one and right now the side of my case is off, don't hear a thing from the PSU. Its top stuff and you get a 3 year warranty.

Not a Hiper anyway. ;)

One of the Seasonic energy+ models would be good. I just got the 650w one and it's excellent. Up to 88% efficiency too so smaller lecky bills. Not sure what the smallest model is though.

Something to point out, the rig in my sig has changed.

This PSU would be for a P4 Northwood 2.8 @ 3.2, 2x 512Mb RAM, 9800Pro, 3 HDD's, Audigy, IC7-G & 2 Optical Drives

Ouch! First Seasonic I heard of to go pop!

Can't you get it RMA'ed?

The seasonic is fine. My sig is now showing a different rig since I created this thread. Sorry about the confusion i've created

Actually what i the possibility that the when the PSU went kapput, that it could take everything with it.

In my case, there was a 5A fuse in the PSU's plug and that was blown. The PC was running fine, even when the PSU electricity could be heard in the PSU and right up until it cut out. I found out later that the fuse blew when I tried to use it with my new rig and it didnt work. Would this suggest that just the PSU fried and nothing else?
