Right, have posted about 10 threads in the last 3 days mainly for my friends computer but now I have a huge problem.

Memtest gave me some errors so I took out 3 RAM sticks and upon turning the PSU on again and plugging it in a big pop and spark occured. It was a OCZ 500w SilentXstram.

Now my main worry is that it has taken all the brand new parts I got with it.

I only have an old Qtec about which I tried but it doesn't plug in properley which is probably a good thing since it would have been trying to power a Asus P5K, E2180, 8800GT, 2 SATA drives and a DVD drive.

Gonna go to a local shop tomorrow and get a new one to test it but just want to know as I just spent £550 on this new stuff.

1. What are the chances that it is just the power supply or it has taken everything with it?
2. If it has taken everything with it how am I covered, I mean, obviously it is the one component that faulted but if in doing so it has taken everything else where do I stand?

I am absolutely terrified at the moment as I spent all my money on this new gear :(

The rest of the system is probably ok if not just RMA it, They wont be able to tell the PSU blew all the stuff up, just say it stoped working :) OCZ PSU's arnt the best try a better brand next time ;)

Just been having a look at the forums using search and most people have theres power up first then pop, which they usually say isnt as bad becase the system should automatically shut down. Mine didn't as soon as i pressed the power switch 'pop' :(

I'd hope you'd be ok, PSUs are a lot better than they used to be at not killing everything when they go. If anything is dead it'll prob be mobo, so you'll just have to wait and see I think. I'd have to recommend replacing it with a Corsair HX520 if you can

Right bought a new PSU and yes it seems the mobo is dead, the LED doesn't light up and no life at all. How do I return these things as it was the PSU that has killed it?

And what happens if I return these 2 and something else is broke, I would like to get a new motherboard delivered for tomorrow but can I choose to have a refund or do I have to have a replacement?

Wow, don't I feel stupid :p

Didn't change the mains cable in rushness, anger etc was wondering why all my old bits didn't power up either lol

Still, changed the cable, and bam, all working, have to admit the thought didn't even cross my mind but glad you mentioned it otherwise several parts would be on the way back. Using the new Jeantech 600w PSU I got today. Still going to RMA the OCZ as I don't trust it now, is refund an option or do I have to get a replacement which I won't use?

Definately not buying another PSU, I read a few reviews on the Jeantech and its supposed to be quite good. As long as it is stable and runs my computer well i'll stick it.

Thanks for the help though to everyone who replied.

Damn this thread made me worried as I just bought a StealthXStream 500W (Well it was only £42 at the time) ... I shouldn't have to worry about dodgy fuses as I couldn't be bothered to undo the cable ties so I just used the one I was using before. :p
