My PSU is whining when it is plugged in and switched on, even if the pc itself is not switched on. I did a little search but most of the problems people are talking about is when their PSU is under load. It never done this before I swapped over to my new case and cpu cooler ( Raven 02 and Frio ) could this be causing the problem ? this is the powersupply in question, http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_600w_stealthxstream_power_supply it is about a year and a half old and is powering a stock clocked i5 750 and a GTX470. Could this be bad? I have heard many horrific stories about things dying when PSU's die ...

How loud is it? If it's just barely audible I wouldn't worry about it, it may be more noticeable in new case if it isn't insulated so well (sound wise)
If however it is more than barely noticeable then yeah it's definitely a cause for concern, you could recheck all your power connections make sure they're good, other than that I'd look at exchanging

The Antec is basically the same as the HX, both made by Seasonic, however the Antecs £30 cheaper as it doesnt have Corsair printed on the side

Indeed that is true, but I'd rather have the Corsair. Their warranty is better in my experience.

How high is the whine? High pitched or low pitched?

Still have to ship the unit to the Netherlands if it fails, which is quite costly. Unsure about Antec's RMA in the UK.

Pretty sure it is Europe as well for Antec. The Corsair TX/HX series may well be made by Seasonic like the Antec, but they are not the same model. The Corsair is a single rail unit. If you don't need a modular PSU the TX750W is a bargain!

It is a shame OcUK stopped selling the lower wattage Sapphire unit, which are basically rebranded Enermax models.

It gets rather High Pitched at times if I am playing games but there is a constant whine that gets rather annoying ..

I have the same PSU & that whine, however it's barely audible when I kneel & put my head right next to the case.

When the PSU is switched on but the system isn't powered up the PSU is still supplying power to one of the rails (5 volt?) for features like wake up on LAN & click mouse to start.

If you have just changed cases then it must simply be different acoustics.

Its excellent PSU and none better in that price range, to get better youd have to pay considerably more

Nah, its a crappy FSP Eplison based psu with crap ripple. Had 3 of 11 die on me in about 4 months, all different builds and different locations, just fizzled out apparently. Lucky me it didn't take any other parts with it. Got the supplier to change brand on rma, another 2 died over the years. And stealth? lol noisy as hell imo. Had to send 2 back straight away as well due to faulty fan controllers running the fan 100% regardless of the load. One reason why no OCZ psu is ever being used in a build by me.

As to the OP, it might be the 5VSB circuit whining, maybe a coil (not detrimental) or a cap (could be bad).

You probably don't know what you're talking about if you're "not a fan of Antec".

They're not exactly the same but the TPN is slightly better, and cheaper.
