PSU Whine, even when pc is off :/

I have the same with a new Antec TruePower 650W modular.

Like you it is not the under load "cap squeal" people encounter while benchmarking/gaming. It is evident whenever the PSU is plugged in and whlie it does change pitch slightly when plugging/unplugging peripherals it is fairly constant.

From my reading it appears to be a coil or inductor on the +5V rail. This is active whenever the PSU plugged in and provides power for charging USB peripherals, Wake on Lan and similar.

I find it not too distracting while the machine is running but when shutdown in an otherwise silent room the pitch is at a frequency that cuts into my soul and would drive me insane over the long term. Think of those high pitched dog whistles.

I have RMA'd the PSU and am steeling myself for a fight when the etailer (not OcUK) finds no fault..

My OCZ Mod X Stream 600W also has a high pitched whine when the machine is on standby. It's right on the edge of hearing to the point where I thought I was imagining it at first.

The Antec is basically the same as the HX, both made by Seasonic, however the Antecs £30 cheaper as it doesnt have Corsair printed on the side

Actually you're a little incorrect there.....

CX-400 – Seasonic
VX-450 – Seasonic
VX-550 – Channel Well (CWT) (PSH platform)
TX-650 – Seasonic
TX-750 – Channel Well (CWT) (PSH(older) platform)
TX-850 – Channel Well (CWT) (PSH(older) platform)
TX-950 – Channel Well (CWT) (DSG platform)
HX-450 – Seasonic
HX-520 – Seasonic
HX-620 – Seasonic
HX-650 – Seasonic
HX-750 – Channel Well (CWT) (DSG platform)
HX-850 – Channel Well (CWT) (DSG platform)
HX-1000 – Channel Well (CWT)
AX-750 – Seasonic
AX-850 – Seasonic
AX-1200 – Flextronics

I brought the TX850 after my OCZ died I was going to RMA it but then realised I'd just get another OCZ back

Had it about 6 months so far and no problems it's nice and quiet, voltages are always good and no odd noises when the machine is off lol....
