Bought a new PSU, a Kolink KL-1000M, to replace a dead XTR XFX 730. Pickings are slim for PSUs at the moment with all I'd usually go for out of stock!

Anyway, installed everything and it doesn't power up with the 8-pin CPU power connector plugged in. You can audibly hear it click on and off quickly.

If I unplug the 8-pin, the mobo shows a red light next to the socket but it does power up; all fans spin etc. Obviously no actual boot.

I can't even find a manual for the PSU. What's going on?

Related or not I'm unsure, but there's no 4-pin cable with the PSU for the mobo's additional 4-pin power, but according to the manual (Asus TUF X299) that socket is optional anyway.

Oh, and it all boots up fine with another PSU.

Fair enough. I'll return it (OcUK). Like I said, everything under £180 was/is out of stock. Supply issues I presume, but it's the same with other retailers.
