Ok been running my system for quite some time now with no probs bar a current memory issue so would like some advice for the kind fellows of the OC forum.

Current system.
Coolmaster 912 HAF case
6GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
Formula III AMD MoBo
AMD 1055T X6 @ 2.8 stock
SupermFX Sound Card "Suppied with board"
Sapphire HD5770 512MB GFX
Arctic power 700w PSU

WHAT I WANT TO DO ;)

Now i want to get a Sapphire HD6870 1GB GFX card but i know its a mix bag with regards to the PSU, Now the system i have as i stated has been running great for over a year on this PSU but DONT want to push my luck.

Any advice welcome on best GFX/PSU combo without breaking the bank.

Kind regards
Jordon

well you could get the 6870 and hope for the best that it doesn't go pop, but if it wrer me I'd change the psu to something better.

new graphics cards coming in the coming week so see if it effects the prices of the current cards.

Yeah i know the high end 7000 series are coming the 6th i think so should be interesting, Do you have any recommendation on PSUs as im looking at around £50-£60

if this is your PSU then bin it ASAP:

using a £40 700W PSU with just one PCIe cable is asking for trouble. one of these should cope with any single graphics card computer: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-007-XF&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

*edit*
your current PSU claims to be able to produce (but probably cant) 528W on the 12V rails (where almost all of the power is taken from in a modern gaming PC). the XFX psu delivers exactly the same on the 12V rail, despite being a far lower rated PSU. it is also far more efficient, a million times more reliable and almost certainly wont take your components out when it eventually dies

Yeah i know what your saying, I have had the PSU for about 18 months and has done its job so think its time for retirement before i get a replacement card.

But to be fair on the PSU i have its served very well for what it is and was not as cheap when i got a while back

There's several other cheaper options over the XFX at £58 though. And a 6870 in your rig should only really be pulling about 350W max, so a 500W PSU should be more than safe enough. However, should you ever want to xfire, go a bit higher to be safe.

To be fair to the psu, it looks to be a HEC build, which is Compucase, big OEM and they make ok psus. So its not the best right now but certainly wasn't an explosion waiting to happen.

I do think your correct in stating there a Compucase PSU

I would like something around 750W tbh as i will if funds allow xfire at some point
