Ok so things just get better but this really is my fault.

Got my HIS x1950 256 meg turbo card today. No 4-6 pin adaptor. Got that sorted with help from someone (thanks!) Now i've just found out my PSU is a 400w, but only 20 amp under the 12+ V.

I have an Asus a8n-e
AMD 64 3800 single core cpu
2 gig , pd3200 ram
windows xp
160 gig Sata HD
1 floppy
1 DVD-RW

Safe to try or just bite the bullet and get a new PSU?

I would give it a try, got a 520w PSU here with 1x 12v rail at only 20A, powers my x1800 XT 512mb fine, no problems at all, and the x1950pro uses a lot less power. :)

20A?

Oh this isn't good. I can't get a higher stable OC out of my CPU or GPU and I thought it was because of my PSU (30A on 2x12V), so I was going to buy an Antec Trio this week. :(

Ok, ready yourself guys, the PSU is branded Color-It.

*Hangs head in shame* It was in the case already, don't hate me for it!

If i tried the x1950 on my current PSU,whats the worst that could happen. Would the PSU die or more? I can live with the PSU dying, just nothing else!

Yeah its just 1x 12v Rail at 20A, ive got a GlobalWin SuperSilent 520w, had no issues at all here. :)

Well thats interesting, been to the GlobalWin site to check, and it has the ATX 1.2v for P4, and the ATX 1.3v for P4/K8, (which is the one i got due to when i had AMD), but looking at the specs, the one it says for mine is Different, it says 18dba etc... and has 28A maximum on the 12v Rail in the DC current table, yet the one for the P4 the ATX 1.2v which looks like mine and is also 19dba says it has 30A peak on the 12v Rail with 28A maximum, but mine is the ATX 1.3v P4/K8 one, so i wonder if they got the pics and the specs around the wrong way or summit.

Either way mines either 28A or 30A then according to that, but im sure i saw it as only 20A somewhere.

Does to me to, so either way ive got 28a on the 12v rail then yes ?

As when looking at the PDF's, the P4/K8 1.3v, it doesnt have a picture but says its only 18dba, and has a maximum of 28a on the 12v Rail, and the PDF for the P4 ATX 1.2v does have a pic, and it looks identical to mine, and does say its 19dba (which mine is), and that says 28a maximum with 30a peak, but mine is the ATX1.3v and is for the P4/K8 as i used to have an AMD CPU as said.

says on the box of my X1950 Pro "450W recommended (with 30A 12V rail)" I think you will probably suffer. If you can try and aim for a 500W PSU, whats your budget?

Yeah in that case id get a better PSU with more amperage on the 12v rail. :)

EZCool is a cheapy, i certainly wouldn't risk that on it.

Id go for something like an Enermax Liberty 500w, or the Corsair 520w, if you want to keep the price around £70-£75.

I could probably run a GTS on mine then. :D

Akasa 400w should do, it has dual rail and combined its 29amp on the +12 rails in total. Its what i have and i asked this on these forums a lot and kept saying it will be fine.

Also as you know theres one on MM going, which i told you about so.. Up to you mate.

He told me on msn his budget is about 20 and 30 is pushing it.

Yep, cheers Skeeta. Thanks for all the help!

Yeah my budget is like £30 heh, hunting a second hand PSU really. I saw some color-it 600w PSUs for £25 but Skeeter forced me not to buy one. :p

I have just bought the Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) - Retail from here and after reading this thread i am now worried that its not going to work when it turns up tomo.

Can someone tell me if it comes with all the cables needed with it and I have a OCZ ModStream Power Supply 450Watt will this be allright for this card?

Cheers

Good on yer Skeeter, the PSU's the most important part of your rig id say, i poor £25 jobbie could probably go BOOM and take your whole rig with it, ala Q-TEC. :)

Yep thats what i was telling him, I tryed convincing him to save for bit better psu but he is eager to play with new HIS card lol. Oh and he told me he once had a Q-tec. :p

Matty - It should come with a dvi dongle for vga output to monitors. It should just need 2 spare molex connectors. 1 molex from each length of molex plugs btw is best to use in each of the two molex connectors on the card. As with sapphire models you only need 2 molex connectors unlike the HIS cards using pci-e connectors.
