I've got a really old thermatake psu which has served me well before and after my hyper2 blew up. But it's really noisy. Now it fits two 80mm fans. Which are easy enough to replace. Has anyone done that? but I'm worried if I change the fans it might overheat and take something out with it. The hyper took my usb ports out when it went.

Or what's a very quite psu around the 450w mark.

How quite is the vx450. Yeh it's is in budget if I wait till payday. But if I'm going to upgrade the psu, I would like it really quite. For comparison I have

3x Noctua NF-S12 800RPM 120mm Silent Case Fan - 3 Pin
and
3 x Samsung SpinPoint hdd which are ultra quite.

and that's it for noise. GFX is heat sink only.

The Corsair's fan is pretty much inaudible. The ones I've used didn't make a peep but some say theirs makes a low humming noise. Either way it'd probably be drowned out by the rest of the system.

In general, of course, fewer fans are always better and slower fans are always better, and larger fans are always better.

thats the great thing with the Noctua if i stop the psu fans you can't hear the case fans when the case is on..
Also is the corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU the same? might as well have modular and 2.2 compliment.

One last question before hitting the buy it button.

How many hdd power connections does it come with?
I have 4hdd and will probably have 6 in the coming months.l

I reckon you are well covered. :) Or if you can't be bothered to click the link, 10x molex and 4x SATA for the HX 520w.

You could replace the fans in your existing PSU but be careful about doing so and be sure that you've left it off for quite a while to allow the caps to discharge.

Yep, you want these from OcUK or sometimes you get them with motherboards. Some older SATA hard drives accept both molex or SATA power connectors but not at the same time.

I've got a spare adapter sitting here which I could send you if you want, either of the email address in my Trust would reach me. :)

To answer the question as to whether the Corsairs are quiet - I have the 620W Modular version and it's virtually inaudible - by far the noisiest component is my CPU cooler fan which is by Zalman!
