Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice on a psu. I havn't got a clue what make to get I was looking at the corsair stuff but they've sky-rocketed in price. I'll tell you my spec;

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5

Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Intel Q6600 (or Q8200, don't know)

Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2

Thermalright Ultra-120A CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775)

Any advice?

I see what you mean.. How much is your budget..?

tbh, £100 isn't much considering your other components won't work without it. If you are buying high end components, don't skimp on a PSU.

I just went for the corsair TX750.

Good stable voltages, 60A on the 12v rail, and fairly quiet (will be 'silent' even on full load with that system). It's probably more than you need right now, but it will leave plenty of room for expansion. AMD rate it as capable of handling 2 4870x2s in crossfire, which is something they don't rate for many higher-wattage PSUs.

PC Power and Cooling 750W Quad.

Peak draw will be around 270W (~40W less with Q8200) so good luck for finding too small PSU.

My budget is around £700 for the pc itself just now I supposem, I can wait till I get more cash. Should I just bite the bullet and go with corsair yeah? Thank you guys. :)

Okay then. Has OCUK lost the plot? The Corsairs were overpriced before but now they are ridiculous. £80 for a HX520 and £115 for a 620. Even the VX450 is £60 now!! It's time people started looking at other brands. There have been quite a few Corsairs failing lately too.

***Edit*** Forget it. Go elsewhere and buy one of the excellent Enermax Modu82+ or Pro 82+ psu's.

Please do not recommend the ModXStream series!
Aye read that a while back, oem is Sirtec who make crap PSU's from what I've read on numerous forums, also the parts on the ModXStream are cheap crappy capacitors hence probally why its dirt cheap.

I'm really surprised OcUK are selling these PSU's, no research done before stocking these.

If your budget is tight just get VX450.
That's enough for nearly any non heavily overclocked single graphic card configuration.

Use of non Japanese (FSP units)/unknown (Sirtec units) capacitors tells something about aimed quality level of ModXstreams.

Hasn't value of your sterling been in decline already for some time?
And same time dollar is rising so naturally that starts to show in prices at some point.

Well everywhere else has them still at the original prices.

Get the Thermaltake toughpower 750W. It's within your budget and a very good PSU.

BTW Toughpower 750W = Corsair TX750W except you get modular cables, and some of the caps are slightly different but other than those things the PSUs are basically identical and made by the same company (CWT).

Inexpensive, powerful, efficient.

Also I have the antec 300, it's at £635 the total just now. Forgot to say the antec 300 sorry. I know that has went up by around £20 aswell. :(

That thermaltake one does sound good gurusan but it is £90 here. Or do my research? :p

i would go with corsair.
i have noticed a lot of prices climbing latley but it will prolly just be to do with crimbo around the corner they will drop in the new year i hope :)
