Hi,

If I was to buy two PSU's to power the following systems, which would you recommend?

a) E4300 @ 3Ghz, GTX260 Maxcore, IP35 Pro, 1x500Gb HDD, 1xIDE DVDRW, 4Gb DDR2
b) 2500k @ 4.5Ghz, GTX480, P8P67-Pro, 2x750Gb RAID0 HDD, 1xSATA DVDRW, 8Gb DDR3 but with potential to upgrade to SLI. This PSU *MUST* be MODULAR.

Effectively I need a PSU for system a) and am wondering whether to cascade my HX520 down and futureproof my main machine and if so, what do I put in the main machine, but in order to appraise this I'd be interested to know which PSU would be recommended for the first machine should I simply go out and buy one.

Cheers!

Fractal Design Newton R2 (Range of Wattages, although i'd go 800W)
Corsair HX 750W Modular (SLI Compliant) PSU.
CoolerMaster 850W Silent Pro M Modular PSU.

Just some of the best ones I can think of, I'd go for the Corsair, but that's just because I have one.

I would also put the HX520W in computer a).

Like RJC, I also recommend the HX750W or HX850W. Both would be suitable with an SLI upgrade.

Thanks guys.

Just for reference what psu would be best off the shelf for the first machine, doesn't need to be modular.

I think the Corsair TX650W would be a good choice, even though a less powerful PSU (like the HX520W) would be fine for that machine. It's on a 'This week only' offer at £67.99.

If A CX500 powers my machine, it'll walk that C2D setup and it's £20 cheaper than the above suggestion.

I was going to suggest this as well, and the CX600W, but I don't know much about the CX series. For £20 more though, I'd get the TX650W though as it offers more scope for upgrades.

I ordered myself a TX650W and GTX480 yesterday. For the price it looks great (For a single 480, which would make it more suitable for machine a) Reviews say at 50% load+ the efficiency is under the silver class and it can output a lot more than what it says on the box.
