i have an ethermax galaxy 1000w psu i bought a few years ago now. how would you know if it is on its way out?

i have a 2600k @ 4.8
2x GTX 570 hd's

when i take both upto 100% folding i can hear a high pitch sound coming from the bottom of the case. is this signs the PSU is on the way out or just common when under heavy load?

High pitch squealing is common, your not alone, try and test again with Vsync forced to ON in the nvidia driver panel.

is it likely to be the gfx cards thats making the noise then?

Its hard to say, never heard it myself, but have seen this reported before and trying VsyncON as a possible solution.

You can roll up a magazine and hold it to your ear to help locate the noise.
