Another post from me; damn this hardware malarky is much harder than it used to be; or im getting old

Anywhoo... I want to replace my Type-R; having put an HD2900XT on it, and seen the 12v dip down to 11.84, and we all know how much fun these PSUs are under load... its done well for a couple of years, but I was kinda hoping it would last a little longer.

So the question is; what do I replace it with. Now i've a bit of an issue... because of the way my watercooling rig is setup; I dont have any more space than the Hiper takes up (160cm from the rear of the case to the front of the PSU).

I'd also like whatever replacement to be capable of chucking around (dual?) Quad Cores, a pair of HD2900XTs, and the assorted drives, fans, pump and other paraphernalia that goes with a high end rig.

It would be good if it were modular too.

My curent thinking is an enermax 720w Infiniti, but I cant seem to find any dimensions on it. My only other thought was the OCZ ProXstream or GameXstream - probably 1000w rated as im less inclined to trust the rated specs on these.

Firstly, 11.84V is nothing to worry about. Many PSUs' rails drop under load. Only if it started going under 11.5/11.4V would I get worried. Also, how are you measuring those voltages? Motherboards often don't read voltages correctly, you need a multimeter.

If you must get a new PSU then I think 700W will be fine for your proposed spec. (Do you really need dual quad cores? :p )

No, but I dont want to replace my PSU within the next 2 years either :p

As for the voltages; yea its measured with speedfan or whatever; It usually reports 12.1x. While im not overly worried about the figure itself; Type-R (Modulars) are renouned for having issues at medium-heavy loads, which this obviously is getting towards if its starting to drop below 12v. Rather than it being in-capable; I just dont trust it.
