Hi,
I'm looking to update my PSU and have two models in mind, The outgoing psu has been hassle free from day one but not being modular creates a mess and I'd like a cleaner build (It'll also be transferred to an ITX build in a year or so), I'm replacing a Corsair TX850 v2 which has a bronze rating.

I've decided I'm never going mgpu again so I'm looking at 600-650 watt models and have chosen one by Antec and one by Fractal design as my short list, What I'd like to know is are Antec truly as good as people say (in particular this model) and what is the general opinion of Fractal? The Antec is a 650 watt Edge model that's Gold rated and the Fractal is a 600 watt semi modular Platinum rated model, Here's the links so any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated, Cheers.

What you have to remember is that very few companies that sell PSUs actually make them. Most come from just a few OEMs - and of course some of those are better than others.

What you want is a PSU from a top-tier OEM like Seasonic or Superflower. The difference in price between top-tier and the rest isn't large enough to risk going for a cheap one.

With all that said the Antec above is made by Seasonic, the Fractal by ATNG (a mid tier OEM)

Out of the two I'd choose the Antec.

The PSU list is here if you want to check yourself :)

Thanks I was leaning towards the Antec, it was the other being a platinum that had me undecided.

If you are going 650W then get the EVGA G2 650W.

I have considered the EVGA's along with Superflower but I don't think it's any better than what I'm getting and it costs more, maybe not a lot but it's enough to sway it in the Antec's favour along with me prefering the red and black that fits my build.

You are talking £4 difference between the Antec Edge and EVGA G2. The EVGA G2 is a superior unit to both the Antec and Fractal, and has a longer warranty of 7 years.

I hadn't noticed the warranty difference, That does tip it in EVGA's favour. As i said it willl be moved to an ITX build at some point so the colour coding now won't matter then as it won't be another red and black build, Thanks for pointing that out.

You can get units with 10 year warranties such as the Corsair RMx 650W (EVGA has 10yr on the 750W+ G2) but I guess it depends on how long you plan on keeping the psu before you change it.

OCUK listing states 7 years but it has been upped to 10yrs - http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/compan...elect-psu-warranties-from-7-years-to-10-years

Cheer's, 5 years is ample so I think the G2 650 will be fine plus I like their level of customer care which is another thing I didn't consider even though it is what makes EVGA my go to Nvidia gpu brand. Some things are worth a little extra. Considering what a great psu my current TX v2 has been I did consider the Corsair models but I think I've chosen right, Thanks again and all the best.
