Is it possible to create a Hotspot but have it appear so other devices can join?
I know it sounds like it does this already when selecting hotspot, turn on Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth and USB only but I don't think it does.

I ask because my internet connection is currently knackered and to connect my music system it requires Wifi to properly use Spotify through the app. Bluetooth does work but its not the best and cannot use things like proper volume control or woke from Spotify app. I can see the iPhone hotspot in the network config page but then selecting it in Spotify it doesn't find the speaker - Im presuming because its not a proper Wi-fi network

Yes it auto publishes it called whatever the name of the phone is.

Settings > About
Settings > Personal Hotspot > On

It probably won’t allow publishing of devices though that’s probably blocked. You might need a proper router for that.

Thanks, guessed as much. It is possible to broadcast the iphone hotspot via the router somehow? If this is possible, then im sure it (the music system) would work and Spotify would see the wifi network properly

You can get adapters that are used to add wireless to devices (e.g. set-top boxes) that only have Ethernet connections. Some wireless routers will do this using a 'client mode'.

With one of those, you should be able to covert the iPhone's wireless hotspot to Ethernet. You could then connect that to the WAN port of a wireless router.

Probably not worth the hassle, but should be possible.

That would depend on your airtime agreement. Phone sims in MiFi devices, tablets, etc. aren't usually allowed.

Aren't allowed as in software/hardware blocked or "it's just naughty"

I read this post which seems like it could be doable with Mifi

Well.. I actually did it for a client couple of times.

I used Linksys router with DD-WRT installed in wireless bridge mode. WiFi of Linksys was connected to MiFi device and one of the LAN ports was plugged into firewall.

As I recall it was not emergency but my client moved to new place and Verizon was really late with installation. So we just went across the street and got a trial of MiFi.

Well MiFi is a router over 3G/4G. Yes that would work but you wanted your phone SSID to work.

You could buy a sim data package only and get a 3G/4G router. That will work as it’s doing routing. Don’t think I would like too though could get costly over unlimited data plans.

I have a three mobile unlimited data plan - not sure how it could get costly unless there a max tethering limit before it starts costing extra
