Pull down screen, leave it down ?

is there any reason not to leave a pull down cinema screen down all the time

or should i roll it up every night?

All depends on how clean and light your room is. For instance if people smoke in there I would make certain it was rolled up, same with direct sunlight. On the otherhand many cinema room setups have a fixed screen so it clearly isn't an issue if the conditions are OK.

If you want it down all the time, why not take it out of the roller and attach it to a fixed board and hang it.

As for protection, depending on how you have it setup, you could have curtains or a blind that you drop when not in use or even just a drop cloth attached at the screen top which you can just lift up when you want to watch.
