I have questions! and I feel you guys are best suited to answer them.

I'll try and keep this short, but I'm going back and forth as to which card is best suited for me currently or whether I should just wait for next gen.

Currently my 970 is performing better than I expected at 1440p, If I had no money there would be no issue, but I want a new shiny card to take advantage of my 165hz! I have G-Sync so need to stay green.

So...
1070 (or ti, I don't even know anymore)?
1080?
1080ti?

I want to make the most of my monitor running at 1440p 165hz (this doesn't need to be maxed out obviously) on as high a settings as I can get whilst i'm happy to turn down AA and make shadows softer etc, stuff that doesn't stand out as a visual downgrade from Ultra (basically ultra with a few things on high).

All of the above while future proofing myself for 2-3 years at this resolution

I'm at a loss! There's a MSI Gaming X 1080 for £480, is it worth it? Would a 1070 suffice for what I want? Tempted by a 1080ti but not if its going to get blown away in a few months by something close to the same price point as the card is currently. Which leads to.. sit tight and see what 2018 has to offer?

I appreciate any help! I'm not sure whats best suited for my needs (I play everything and anything) whilst maybe not going overkill if I don't need to!

Thanks guys,

It appears as though I am getting a bit trigger happy. My card and cpu overclocked appear to be pulling in frames well above what benchmarks online say they should be doing. It seems sensible to wait and just build around next gen, next year.

I've never been in a situation before where I can buy a flagship card on launch (managed to turn my life around in the last 18 months) so I've never paid much attention to price above the mid-range. I know its very difficult to say, but if you guys were to base it off previous pricing structures, what sort of price bracket is a decent non-ref 1180 likely to launch at? Would it be comparable to the price of a 1080ti currently? I know its all guesswork currently, but any insight is helpful! :D

OP, I'm in the same boat as you and have just ordered the card shown above.

If you look at the second hand prices of 970's it makes sense to buy the 1070TI on the above deal as a stop gap and flog your 970.
Yup! a good £200+ when I was last looking on Ebay. Just isn't worth it. Problem being with getting rid of the 970 is they don't appear to go for much more than £100?
I think I'm happy to wait at the mo, unless something ridiculous happens. I want to have that top end card (for all of 6 months) when it's released lol
