So yeah, I ripped out the secondary PCI-E slot by not undoing the little hook and being in a rush (lesson learnt)

I'll replace the board in a couple of days - I can't get the plastic slot back on as some of the pins etc. are bent.

Anyway, would it be safe to use for now with the exposed pins, or am I best off cutting the pins off (so there's no short circuit) so at least the board / PC can be used in the meantime?

And yes, I feel stupid.

Board is MSI Z97 Gaming 7

Providing nothing is using the duff slot and none of the exposed pins are touching you'll be fine. If it makes you feel happier cut them off.

Pulled a sata port off once on a 775 motherboard years ago and its still working today lesson is don't be to heavy handed

I done this in 2008 when I was slightly intoxicated and didn't really know much, or anything, about hardware. Long story short I'm still using the same mobo with the bent pins and broken plastic.

Edit:

Never seen that you've already killed the board. Ach well, it happens.
