Pulled over by the police question

Hi guys,

Bit of a random one here but I'm hoping maybe we have some police amongst us that can clarify something for me.

I was pulled over earlier along with some idiot that overtook me on a 30 road by my house because he wouldn't let me exit the round about so I cut across him a bit. He had basically chased me from the local petrol station exit because I flashed a guy infront of me who had left his fuel cap open and slowed down to tell him.

He sat in the left lane (which is straight and left) and I was in the correct lane at the island to exit on the third but he carried on going round to block me in. When I cut a cross i carried on driving home and he flew past and slammed his brakes on... And then the police cars pulled infront of both of us.

I tried to explain to the police officer what happened but he kept tellin me to shut up and asking me if I thought he was born yesterday.

I was actually really scared as I've never been in trouble before.

He ran my license and reg and came back and said how stupid my manuever was and how he didn't believe what I had told him. After a while he said 'right, get in your car and go' and that was it.

I'm just worries if this goes on any record against me? I never received any paperwork or anything?

Just a bit shook up and unable to sleep :(

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

EDIT - Wrong topic, was supposed to be in general life. Sorry :(

This should be in General discussion.

If the Police let you go with a ticking off, then forget about, learn from your mistake.
If you cut another drive off, regardless of the reason, it is still dangerous driving.
So this time you were lucky.

Don't worry about them just some Jobsworth **** justifying his job. Im constantly getting hassle from them it seems unless they issue you paperwork and make you sign something your okay

I know I shouldn't of cut across but I was genuinely scared after he chased me and we all make silly mistakes when frightened... I just wanted to get back home.

They did make me feel like a complete criminal, made me feel sick. My girlfriend said I was as white as a sheet when I got in.

I don't think my c2 that looks 'boyracerish' (which I'm not at all) helped anything. He thought we were racing but wouldn't let me explain!

Really hope nothing comes of it :(

He had a reason to pull you.. Yes. But im sure he could see he scared you and let you off with a warning knowing you won't do it again. Do what i do pal, leave everyone else to it. If they have left something hanging off there car leave them to it and get past them or keep back. You won't get hassle as flashing your headlights can even constitute an offence somehow

Don't worry about them just some Jobsworth **** justifying his job.

He gave the OP a warning for what was possibly dangerous driving.

That seems a perfectly reasonable thing to do for a police officer to do.

Someone doing their job in a reasonable way isn't a jobsworth.

Well he definitely scared me and I've definitely learnt a life lesson! I always try to be the nice guy and help people out but like you said, I think it's better to just leave it and let them get the grief. I only popped out to get some crisps for the house.... 5 minute drive ruined my whole evening (and potentially could have been more).

If there was any record of the event or it was going to be taken further would they of said / gave me a document?

Thanks for your help :)

Also, I'm reading stuff about 'cautions'. Is a caution what I received or is that something that is written and formally given to you? I think I just had a warning (slap on te wrists) but I'm unsure. I was scared to ask at the time so I just drove off.

Please don't hotlink images - Rilot

Hope you like Porridge. :D

Nothing to worry about. Cautions are given at the station and are committed to record - you simply received a roadside warning and no further action will occur.

Chill out!

He wasn't doing it in a reasonable way though was he. He should at least have had the decency to listen to the OP's story before (possibly) giving him the warning.

If I were you I would make a complaint about the officers attitude and handling of the situation, and make sure nothing has been noted on your record, as said above sounds like a jobsworth ****.

This situation happens a lot at a roundabout near here as despite the signs and floor markings showing what lane you are supposed to be in you still get morons trying to use the left lane and undertaking, taking evasive maneuvers when under threat is not dangerous driving.

I don't believe I commented on the manner in which the warning was given, I only said that it wasn't unreasonable for the police officer to give him a warning for driving in a dangerous way (which the OP has effectively admitted doing).

If someone chases you, pull over, wait for them To get out the car, then drive off ^^ hopfully the time it takes them to get back in your already long gone.

I wouldn't worry about it OP. You've just got a police officer wagging his finger at you.

However, if i were in your shoes i'd write a complaint to the police explaining what happened in as much detail as possible, how it was handled by the officer and how you felt.

Apart from that, there's nothing to do really.

What you can take from this experience is that there are drivers out there that are ***** and don't read traffic signs or know how different type of junctions work, unfortunately, and that you will have to go out of your way to avoid confrontation.
Next time (if there is a next time), consider going around the roundabout once more to come off.

Ive been stopped many times by the police and most times they have moaned about something stupid, including :-
Passanger in my car not wearing socks-
according to police he dumped his socks full of drugs when we was stopped, real reason was we just come from footy and he hadny put his normal socks back on.
Pulled over for someone throwing a cigarette butt out the car when followed by the police-
Police thought it was drugs again, one officer put his head into the car to say about a funny drug like smell only for the other officer to say it was my vanilla air freshener.
Stopped for changing lanes, changed my mind about where to park late at night.
Stop for braking into corners and accelerating out of them hard- thinkthey was upset they couldnt keep up in their diesel astra
One time I was stopped when driving a courtesy car just after the clocks went back and was "told off" for nto changing the time in the car.

So in all dont worry OP you do often get stopped for seemingly stupid and pointless things, but most of them are just ways for them to make sure you are not doing anything else illegal or that you are not DUI.
