Hi all, water cooled my system yesterday and finally enjoyed some gaming last night. Temp were brill and all was silent, bliss. Turned it on this morning and left the room for no more than 5 mins and I heard my son telling me he could smell something odd. I dashed to my study and it was awful. Sodding pump had burnt out. Fortunately the CPU and GPU only went up in temp a little and didn't even get to my alarm threshold I set in real temp. So pleased I wasn't outside as I dread to think how bad it would have been.

Stripped and drained system which was very surreal as I only built it yesterday. Gotta laugh otherwise I'll cry ha ha. Had the pump 3 years, its man fact date was 03/10. Just wish I'd of got a new one last week. The pump is a swiftech mcp355 18w ultra with the xspc res top. Can anyone recommend a superb and reliable pump, preferably with a res combo. My pump was quite loud and the only thing I could hear in my system so hopefully there's quieter ones out their but just as powerful. Cooling CPU and GPU in same loop with feser quad radiator. Heat killer blocks. Got a Silverstone TJ07 case and would preferably still want to house pump and res in the bottom.

D5 gives almost the same flow and pressure to the DDC whilst being a lot more reliable and quieter, even at full speed, but becomes increasingly inaudible when you turn it's speed down (3 is the sweet spot for noise and flow).

Might just buy the same pump again so I can use my res top again and I know that fits nicely in the bottom. I was looking at the 10w instead so it's quieter but how much would that effect temps? My gpu was idleing between 29 - 31 yesterday when it was pretty hot outside and cpu was sat at around 35. Would I get the same temps with the 10w version?
 
I have the D5/XSPC setup its great however its bigger than your current one so check to make sure itl fit in the gap, I was surprised how big it was in the flesh

That's why I was thinking I might stick with what I know as it fits in nicely so the airfow isnt too impeded too. Not sure If I want to get the 10w version though as if it effects temps I'll probably stick with the 18w version again. However, I'm also thinking I don't trust these pumps anymore but I guess any can go at any time.

Can you get the foam pads to fit yours as I don't intend on screwing it to the case. My last pump came with a very sticky foam pad which worked really well. Can you hear your pump as that was the only thing I could hear in my system which was really frustrating.

Pumps are pumps no matter which you get they will go eventually, if my d5 lasted 5 years I wouldn't be terribly upset even though it should good for 5 years the d5 costs what 60ish quid the ddc about 70 quid for piece of mind when I come to changing the rig in 3-5 years time ill be swapping the pump regardless can always keep the old one as a backup just in case or use it for cleaning out any new rads you might get although not in your case this time around
 
Yeah I had it working for 3 years and just should have bought a new one. I did test it last saturday when the PC was in bits and it worked fine, just wished it of died then ha ha. I think I'll end up getting same again but just not sure about the 10w as in if it'll effect temps. I have two blocks in my loop with a quad rad so not too restrictive. I was happy with the 18w version apart from the noise.

There is no point trying to use an old pump as you could be in the situation the OP is in :(

Oh, I've certainly learned my lesson, the hard way. Just can't decide on the 10w or 18w. Can anyone advise? Fortunately I have a few of the xspc res tops for it but seems like you can't really get hold of them anymore.
 
personally id get exactly what you had before

if your trying to save a little money getting the lower powered one then it may increase temps as it will be less powerful

My mrs thinks I should get the same too ha, maybe I should listen to her. Not doing it to save money but to have it completely silent. If you think the 10w will will effect temps though I'll just get the 18w version again.

Any idea how much temps would increase though? I know its difficult to say but just an estimate?
