pump

The 18watt DDC is superb.

Ive used a lot of Plexi topped DDC's ( alphacool) and every one has been al quiet as the other.

with high end PC's and huge power supplies though, silence is taking a turn for the worst. ! but i can sleep at night knowing that the DDC is superbly quiet. and Cathar's quote that Marci posted sums it up ( although i do still prefer 1/2" tygon :P )

Im not sure of the reason why people are still suggesting the D5 though ? maybe the 'vario' model suites soem people but i cant see a better pump than the DDC.
its doing today what the AX 50z done for us yesterday.

The D5 is based on the same impeller as the DDC so it's not that different.

A while back there were issues with the DDC pumps reliabilty, from reading Cathar's data at the time I found that the original D4 was the best pump for my loop, but too much for some, the D5 was an upgrade from the D4 and in theory the ideal pump IMO, but things move on. I haven't looked in a while but are these reports still based on 1 CPU loops only?

DDC 18w rules all whether single block or multiblock - it has the highest head pressure of them all so overcomes restriction better than both D4 and D5.

D5 was released due to noise complaints from D4 users (remember the annoying whine?)

Anything that matches the D5 for performance but is smaller will "beat it" in the use-for-our-purposes stakes - easier and more convenient to mount etc, consumes less space in the case... even if D5 and DDC 18w were matched in performance, DDC would be considered the more appropriate of the two because of it's small size and builtin mounting lugs rather than the D5's metal bracket with stupidly positioned mounting holes...

As it stands, DDC 18w with aftermarket top beats all and has done since the day it was released.

D4 has now been discontinued - Laing no longer producing them. D5 and DDC are only options. Expect the D5 to be discontinued within the next year at a guess and DDC to be the only option. D5's only sell these days when DDC 18w's aren't available / out of stock...

Yeah - but my D5 Vario with the Polarflo chrome jacket has far more bling than the DDC :D I'll take form over substance any day... oh wait... thaaat's why my clocks are so rubbish these days... :p

Meh - I don't go fer bling, however, DDC with Plexitop imo looks better than Dx with Polarflo... just be wary if the chroming goes on that polarflo as it's aluminium underneath iirc...

Ive got a DDC2 + Petras top. I havent fired it up yet, but I was suprised by its tiny size. I wish the Petras top offered the option to have a side mounted inlet, similar to the stock top. I know there are other tops out there that have this, but ive already got the Petras now.

I wanted mounts on the side so that it could be put into a drive bay.

...2 reasons why I went with the alphacool top :D and I personally prefer the plexi top to the blacktop. Would have been nice if a 'competitor' had sent me the right pump I ordered though instead of the 10w I recieved
