HI,
I have been putting together the specs for a water cooling setup i aim to purchase pretty soon.

One thing i do not understand is this "pump with tops" phrase.
Having never even held held a pump, or top, in my hand, i am afraid i do not understand this phrase.
Does this mean you HAVE to have a top to your pump or can you go without.
And if this is the way to go why not buy pumps with tops already on them.

If tops are made to help increase flow why are the pumps that poor, if it is a case of better tech, then why are the poor pumps not dumped.

I am sure you can see my dilema, details details:confused:

I also meant to ask, how do i know which top fits/goes with which pump,
and are some of them tops with reservoirs in one.

And the questions keep coming and coming.

The vast majority of pumps these days are made of 3 basic parts. The bottom half which houses the motor, the impellor, and the pump top into which the inlet and outlet ports are situated. So basically the pump top is tightly screwed to the pump bottom, with the impellor in the middle. Almost all pumps I know of will come complete with a basic top so you are not forced to buy one separately. The main issue it that the default tops are usually one moulded piece with unremoveable plastic barbs. The advantage of a 3rd party top therefore is to allow you to fit your own barbs to best suit your hose size, and also they are pretty much guarnateed to give you better flow compared to a default top, due to them having less severe changes in flow direction.

I have an after-market top on my DDC1 and even just testing in a bucket with the original and the replacement was amazing. It also allowed me to change the inlet from horizontal to vertical which improved my routing within the case.
