Hi,

The other day I was out driving to a customers house and when I left and did a 3 point turn in their close I unwittingly drove over some broken green beer bottles lying in the middle of the road.

I didn't see them and only felt the crunch, reversed and then saw them.

Well I thought it sounded pretty bad and today the tyre which went over them looks pretty flat.

I think by tomorrow morning it will show that it is indeed punctured. I may be wrong and just thinking this however.

If I it is punctured though, should I get the council to pay for the puncture repair?

I know I will sound like one of those people who tries suing for everything like tripping up over a pavement but I'm not- I've never trying getting compensated for anything before but I'm just a little annoyed that due to the binmen's negligence I now have to foot the bill for a possible puncture repair and take time out getting this done!

right, anyway, that's ok - if I see them around that way I'll be sure to drop a bag of "stationary" heavy duty nails in their path so they can see how they bloody well like it hahaha

You can complain and people do. I work in the workshops of the local council and we get loads of complaints. We recently had a guy drive into a sofa that fell of the back of a Cargo. Due to it being insecure the driver of the car got the money to repair the damage to his car ;)

Are you a dumb ass? Open your eyes next time.

But in this case, take yourself down to a tyre place and get it fixed for a fiver.

If i worked in the council and you called about that, i would laugh and hang up!

Here i can paypal you a fiver if you want!

I've actually driven over a intact bottle before and it exploded under my wheel and all was fine. (Not intentionally obviously)

I've also driven over previously broken bottle and suffered puncture as result. All was not well.

Actually, that's a good point. I've seen loads of tyres where nails / screws have given a puncture, but never seen glass cause one..

Often the front wheel will 'flick' up the debris/screw/nail etc and the back wheel will then catch it 'at the right angle' and this will cause a puncture. It's not usually just driving over something that gives issue, it's how it was driven over than can cause the problems.

Try a rear wheel 'flicking' up a shovel on the M40 and severing many things on my mates Escort a few years ago :D
